So proud to be Filipino
Contestants in the Ms Philippines New Zealand 2011 pageant
at Pistang Pilipino sa Hamilton held from 21-23 October
We asked the some of the contestants in the Ms Philippines New Zealand 2011 pageant held at Pistang Pilipino sa Hamilton on October 21-23: ‘Why are you proud to be Filipino?’
Christina Williamson,
- Winner Miss Philippines NZ 2011
This pageant was a great opportunity and experience for me, it means a lot that I can represent my Filipino culture and hopefully to use my role as Miss Philippines New Zealand to benefit the Filipino community as well as the New Zealand community. I hope to make the most out of this amazing experience and to further myself to bigger and better things!
Hilary Turner,
- Contestant Miss Philippines NZ 2011
I am proud to be a Filipino because of the characteristics associated with being a Filipino, and also the unique blend of cultures we possess in our bloodlines.
Our attitude towards life and other people radiates not only to our own people, but to the entire world. A good example of this was shown at Labour Weekend this year, we gathered as a community and also a big family. In our own community gatherings, no matter how small the gathering is or what the gathering is about we still emit happiness.
Another characteristic that is associated with my pride is patriotism. We are always so proud to be Filipino and never fail to show it, especially with those Filipinos that have left a substantial mark on the world such as Manny Paquiao.
The numerous races we contain in our bloodlines create a culture that is very unique and enchanting such as the folk dances, food, history of the Philippines, festivals and cities, towns and provinces just to name a few.
These two things stand out to me as being the main reasons for being a Filipino.

I am extremely proud to be a Filipina. Living in a beautiful environment like NZ, sharing both amazing unique cultures like Kiwi and Filipina. I’m so proud of my heritage, the people, the atmosphere of the Philippines.
The exotic Filipino food, the music, our beautiful landscapes the connection and love between the people. Pinoy Pride!!! :)

Yes I am proud to be Filipino because it’s a part of who I am. I was born and raised in the Philippines with great values from my family. Representing myself in the Pageant is one way of showing that I am proud to be a Filipino.
